It’s not about the destination, but rather the journey…

Hello, and welcome to Mac and Chonies, where you’ll find a variety of handcrafted, wearable paper art to add a unique touch to your look, whether it’s a night out on the town, a wedding, or a weekend at a music festival.

Mac and Chonies was borne out of my love for colorful costumery and my passion for origami, quilling, and other paper art techniques.

I first learned how to fold origami when I was 19, and made several pieces for friends during that time, but drifted away from the art form and didn’t return until the age of 34, when I was living in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

A bit bored with the beach bum lifestyle, I began looking for craft projects to fill my free time, remembering the origami pieces I created in my youth. Hundreds of sheets of folded paper later, I created my first origami headdress to wear to a String Cheese Incident show at the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Aventuras.

These shows are known for their wild costumery and self-expression, so my headdress was a point of curiosity and adoration for many other attendees, most of whom asked where they could buy one. And with that, Mac and Chonies began to materialize as a producer of unique and unusual festival accessories, costume pieces, and everyday wear that embody that festive spirit of individuality.

The process of constructing my paper art pieces is very meditative, which is what made me fall in love with origami and other forms of paper art in the first place. In origami, the end result is never nearly as important as the process: the mistakes you make, the knowledge you gain, and the gratitude that results from overcoming obstacles to reach your goals. Every piece I make includes this process, and I am both proud and humbled to share a piece of my life with you.
